In these silent hours we are waking. Lost behind a soft and bleary lens fearing dawn, fleeing dreams we stumble in gloomy Wonderland falling through funhouse tunnels which a lone, unblinking eye ends. I cannot hope to count the number of times I have walked through the sitting room to get breakfast, and found you sleeping in your armchair, still wearing clothing from the day before. I should begin telling you to go to bed the same time as I--which is quite late in its self--,but seeing you in something besides immaculate dress and a sober expression is something I would not readily give up. Besides, it is interesting to observe your mouth turned up at the corners. Why do you smile now of all times? If ever asked; I do not watch the sun's steady creep through the window for the express purpose of seeing you in such a light.

the thunder is an earthquake, waking my bones, waking my blood, waking me up like a bump in the night. i want to say this is for everyone who has realized that humans are just fragments of regret and hope sown together but it is more for you than anyone else. and it is so easy to fall apart without you but i am holding on and i'll be okay. i'll be fine. you'll see.

By day, I'm an Honours student writing a thesis on sixteenth-century English swordsmanship and symbolism; by night, I battle sleep until I can fight no longer. Well, looks like the burst of inspiration, enthusiasm and general happiness is over. I think I managed to squeeze about ten days out of it, and while I'm not so bad now as I was, things are just kinda... flat. Nothing to do but keep trucking on and try to get things done by willpower alone.

The Last Four Days

The last four days of my life have been pretty incredible. What's happened, you may ask? Nothing, really. I haven't won any awards, haven't gone anywhere, met anyone new, or done anything which would normally justify calling any length of time 'incredible'. The only thing that changed is my subjective mental state - I'm happy again, properly, for the first time in a few months. I feel confident and capable, willing and able to do all the things which, less than a week ago, I felt I couldn't do - writing, dancing, learning, sewing.
